AIRFIX KITS - flextime - 7" - £3When the great and massively underrated GIANT HAYSTACKS broke up a few years ago, two of the three members went on to form AIRFIX KITS. This three song debut 7” continues where the aforementioned band left off, maintaining a heavy MINUTEMEN influence complimented with the early UK punk sounds of WIRE/GANG OF FOUR. The song flextime is a bonafide hit. If you are currently temping, or have worked as a temp before, this is your soundtrack.

The Minutemen are still hanging out with Wire...or, as the band apparently describes it themselves; “Gang Of Four getting rat-arsed on cider and covering the entire Strength Through Oi! comp.” Proper "working-class", hook-heavy, catchy as f*kc, punk sounds with absolutely no Vice friendly hipster in sight. D.Boon would be proud.
 
UNION TOWN - blinding lights - 7" - £3
...the new ep. I still hear a heavy DC vibe, albeit with a little bit more 'rock' (in a good way btw). Great stuff and I frankly could listen to Johan Vogels's amazing guitar playing all day. Released by Sabotage Records so hopefully this means it gets the proper distribution their stellar LP deserved but never got.
 
AUTISTIC YOUTH - idle minds - lp - £7 - SOLD OUT  
..2010...what a great year for records...!! This is the long awaited 2nd album from hardworking PDX youngsters, following up the “Landmine Beach” LP and a bunch of killer singles.Driving, melodic punk/hardcore with dark, swirling undercurrents. Catchy but not at all vapid. I saw someone call it "a cross between Portland, Southern California, and Copenhagen" which works for me. If you like bands like THE OBSERVERS, NO HOPE FOR THE KIDS or ADOLESCENTS, snap it up. Like the just discussed The Estranged, Autistic Youth also really find their sound on this records. It's exciting to hear the huge progression they made on an already great 1st lp. Totally killer

If you've never heard of this band...have a look at the line-up:

..sound familiar? They should do as 3/4 became THE MINUTEMEN, one of the greatest bands punk has ever produced, after the short-lived THE REACTIONARIES ceased to exist. Side A of this great (!!) lp has the famous, much traded, practice tape that was "recorded in San Pedro, CA, at the shed in back of George’s house on 17th Street, across the street from San Pedro High School – January 1979". When I read about side B before ordering in copies I figured I wouldn't really bother playing it: "Bonus Side features 10 Reactionaries songs from Document Side A covered by 38 members of different San Pedro affiliated bands, both past and present.".....HOWEVER...having just done so, it is actually really really great as well. All bands are good and their versions of the songs really work and add something. All in all a great document from a legendary band often heard about, but not often yet properly 'heard'...untill now! 
One small comment about the high price. This is the result of me being hit with a £23 customs charge on this order....so thank the fucking border patrol!

"These nine tracks by Finland's BAD JESUS EXPERIENCE are a solid and great update of the raw, garage-ier edge of early Finnish hardcore punk combined with current European tendency towards melody. Think GORILLA ANGREB, but with more of a reliance on the blunt slugfest nature of Finnish punk (e.g. IKBAL label, proto-hardcore-era). The female vocals teeter between melodic singing and outright screams, sung entirely in Finnish, with little clue or translation of the lyrics, captured in a relatively clean, but in no way "modern" recording that does not detracts from its impact. Not over-the-top trash; more mid-tempo, rage tempered with hints of melody. Recommended and ace! - MRR #330

MOBCHARGE - apocalyptic horror - LP - £7
The first lp from these long running Spanish dbeat warriors (they released their 1st demo way back in 1994), featuring members of VIOLENT HEADACHE, PROYECTO TERROR, ATEH, TOTÄLICKERS etc. MRR had this to say about it: "Fuck yeah! There is nothing new or innovative here, and there really doesn't fucking need to be. This is 100% pure D-beat in all of it's slightly sloppy, raw glory with a singer who sounds remarkably like the late Kawakami (DISCLOSE, of course) . (...) As far as the style goes, MOBCHARGE is more in line with the second-wave bands like DISGUST and DISASTER both in their lack of solos and the relative shortness of the songs. Nice lyrical nods to CONFLICT and SORE THROAT as well!

VIOLENT HEADACHE have been going for well over 20 years at this point, having started way back in 1998. Ever since then they've continously played true political punk grindcore crust they way it was intended. This split ep sees them team up with HOLOCAUST IN YOUR HEAD who'll have become somewhat of a well-known name in the European diy scene of their own right, due to a multitude of tours and releases. HOLOCAUST IN YOUR HEAD share members with TOTALICKERS among others and go for a more crust approach.
